Fugitive preacher wanted by FBI arrested in Philippines

A Filipino pastor accused of sexual abuse and human trafficking in the Philippines and the United States has been arrested.

Benhur Abalos Jr., the Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, announced the arrest of Apollo Carreon Quiboloy in a Facebook post. The preacher has been on the run for three years in the Philippines. Abalos did not provide any details about the arrest.

As reported by CBS News, Rommel Francisco Marbil, the chief of the Philippine National Police, also confirmed Quiboloy’s arrest.

“I confirm that Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and his aides, Jackielyn Roy, Ingrid Canada, Cresente Canada and Sylvia Cemañes, are here,” Philippine National Police spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said in a statement. “It is a joint effort of the police and the military.”

Quiboloy is the founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ Church (KOJC), and his followers have referred to him as “appointed son of God”. He was arrested by national police alongside four of his aides in Davao. As reported on by the Philippine News Agency, national police surrounded the KOJC compound at 1:30 p.m. local time, and gave the detainees 24 hours to surrender.

Police say he gave up four hours later. Quiboloy was reportedly last at the national headquarters of Philippine National Police in Quezon City after being transported by a military aircraft to Villamor Air Base after being taken into custody.
