
Former Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to accept an NAACP Image Award during a nationally televised broadcast on Saturday, February 22, reports Billboard.
The first African American and South Asian American women ever to run as a major party’s nominee for President will receive the group’s Chairman’s Award.
“Vice President Kamala Harris is more than a leader – she is a force of change, driven by an unwavering passion to shape a brighter, more equitable future,” said Leon W. Russell, chair of the NAACP National Board of Directors to Variety.
“Her legacy is built on courage, compassion, and a profound commitment to uplifting those who need it most. Her tireless advocacy for the most vulnerable among us has made her a beacon of hope and progress.”
Harris’ has been brought up as a possible candidate for California governor in 2026. The Hollywood Reporter also speculates she could decide to run for president again in 2028.
Past Chairman’s Award winners include then-Senator Barack Obama, the late John Lewis and Samuel L Jackson.
The Image Awards will be televised on CBS and BET on Saturday 8 p.m. ET/PT.
