Arrest made in the tragic death of mom on NY subway

Authorities Friday made an arrest in the July death of Than Htwe, a mother and wife pulled down the stairs of a New York subway station, reports the New York Post.

The incident left the 58-year-old mother in a coma before the family made the tough decision to pull her life support and donate her organs.

David Robinson faces charges of murder and two counts of manslaughter, according to News 12.

Police identified Robinson as the suspect in late July and had asked for the public’s help to locate him. He’s accused of grabbing Htwe’s son’s backpack, sending them both down the stairs backward.

Police offered a $10,000 reward in the case. They arrested Robinson shortly after 2 pm Friday in the NYPD’s 5th Precinct near Chinatown and Little Italy. Authorities credited an anonymous tip made to the Crime Stopper’s hotline.

Robinson did not resist and the police took him into custody without incident.

Htwe immigrated from Myammar just three years ago with her husband. She found work making clothes for the hospitality industry. He worked as a sushi chef. Their son Hein studied math at Fordham University.

His father, Shein, returned to Myanmar after his wife’s death to become a monk. Hein has decided to stay in the United States to rebuild his life.

  1. I hope the father and son find peace and that memories of Htwe, wife and mom are good ones that help guide them as they move from this tragedy.
