Vice President Kamala Harris is recovering from COVID.
Her office announced last Tuesday that the Vice President has tested positive, following confirmation from positive rapid and PCR tests. Harris is reported to be asymptomatic, and has been vaccinated and received two booster shots, according to CBS News.
Harris and her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, have updated Twitter on the Vice President’s road to recovery. Emhoff tweeted that his wife is “feeling good” and thanked those who sent well wishes, in addition to sharing a picture of Harris’ at-home office.
Due to their differing travel schedules, Harris has not been in close contact with President Biden or first lady Dr. Jill Biden. Emhoff had previously tested positive for COVID-19. Other White House staff members, such as Harris’ communications director Jamal Simmon and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also tested positive earlier in the month.
Harris will return to the White House once she has tested negative, People reported. Upon consultation with her doctors, Harris has taken Pfizer’s Paxlovid pill. The purpose of the pills is to reduce severe symptoms in high-risk patients, according to the NY Post.
Some medical experts, like former Surgeon General Jerome Adams have questioned the Vice President’s use of the pill due to her asymptomatic status. The White House announced that it will be accelerating the availability of the pill.
In the meantime, Harris tweeted that she will continue to isolate and follow CDC guidelines, stating that she is grateful to be vaccinated and boosted.
