Portland police arrested a man in a road rage incident accused of making anti-Asian remarks and threatening the victims with an object that looked like a gun.
On Friday afternoon, police say Neal Hollis Walker, 54, made racist remarks to a driver he pulled up next to near South Macadam Avenue and Taylors Ferry road. According to The Oregonian, Walker, who is White, believed the driver was from China.
Walker made racist comments about the driver’s Asian descent. According to OPB, police say he also pointed a black object at the other driver, gesturing in a manner that made the object look like a gun. Police said the object was actually a black hose.
Bias Crime Unit Detectives responded to the incident and are assisting with the investigation. According to a press release, Walker has been booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of bias crime in the second degree and menacing.
