Ethnic homophily is the tendency of people to affiliate with people from similar ethnic backgrounds. This affiliation among peers can be a vehicle for ethnic socialization and ethnic identity development. Young Hee and Diggy are both Korean American, but Diggy is from an immigrant Korean family and Young Hee is raised by white adoptive parents. For these kids, ethnic homophily becomes an opportunity to learn about what it means to be Korean through food.
Martin and Rich Lee are second generation Korean American brothers. Martin is a retired elementary school teacher and the illustrator of the strip. Rich is a professor of psychology in Asian American studies at the University of Minnesota and writes the content.
