Edison Mayor Sam Joshi sued over car accident

A woman is suing Edison, New Jersey, Mayor Sam Joshi for injuries she sustained in a car accident.

According to mycentralnewjersey.com, the accident occurred on December 9, 2022 The lawsuit says Sobia Qaiser was traveling south on a busy road in Edison when Mayor Joshi, who was driving east in a township vehicle, struck her car.

The lawsuit calls Joshi “negligent and careless.” Qaiser says she endured “severe, serious and permanent injuries” because of the crash.

“She was caused to incur medical expenses and will, in the future be caused to incur medical expenses; she has been and will in the future be disabled and prevented from attending to her necessary affairs and business,” the lawsuit said, according to the American Bazaar.

Joshi became the first South Asian American and the youngest mayor of Edison last year, when he was sworn in at 32 years old.

According to America Kahani, township spokesman Philip Swibinski issued a statement noting that the mayor had “publicly disclosed that he had been in a minor car accident immediately after it occurred last year and used it as a teachable moment to encourage residents to drive safely during the busy holiday season.”
