Investigations into Los Angeles Dodgers player Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter Ippei Mizuhara are still ongoing. Mizuhara turned himself in to federal authorities on Friday after it was revealed he allegedly stole $16 million from Ohtani, CNN reports.
Ohtani is welcoming the Department of Justice’s investigation.
“I’m very grateful for the Department of Justice’s investigation,” Ohtani said in Japanese per the LA Times. “For me personally, this marks a break from this, and I’d like to focus on baseball.”
According to The New York Times, prosecutors say that none of Mizuhara’s bets were on baseball.
Major League Baseball is also conducting its own investigation. Insiders believe the details of that investigation, which will be released soon, will benefit Ohtani.
