Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee will compete in the all-around at the U.S. Championships. It is the first time she will compete in an all-around since being diagnosed with kidney disease in early 2023.
Lee submitted a petition to compete in the all-around at the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. According to Olympics.com, the petition was recently approved.
The championships are another step forward in Lee’s journey to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. The reigning Olympic all-around gold medalist is hoping for a chance to join the team and potentially defend her title.
Her performance at the upcoming championships will determine whether or not she can compete at the Olympic Trials in June, Essentially Sports reports. This year, the trials are being held in Minneapolis, just miles from where Lee grew up.
The women’s competition at the U.S. Championships will begin on Friday, May 31.
