In 1964, the family of Xiong Nhia Yang escaped Laos. Xiong was forced to leave his sister Sua behind because she had been injured by gunfire, but as KARE TV reports, he vowed that he would return to get her.
“My father said … Tell my sister, ‘OK, right now I can do nothing for you. I really love you, but you stay here,'” Xiong Nhia said.
Both Nhia and his father did try to come back for Sua, but soldiers foiled their plans and they’ve had no idea what had happened to her–until last year.
That’s when they traced her to Southern Laos.
They recently greeted her at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
