ABC has announced it is ordering a full season run of its Friday night comedy Dr. Ken, starring Ken Jeong.
It’s the second 1st year show starring an Asian American to get a full season. The other is Priyanka Chopra’s Quantico
Deadline reports that ratings for Dr. Ken have held steady. It’s up 25 percent in viewership over the show that aired in the Friday night 8:30 time slot last season and is holding 100 percent of it’s lead in, Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing.
This coming Friday’s episode will guest star heart throb Will Yun Lee from the movie Wolverine.
Lee plays the former boyfriend of Allison (Suzy Nakamura) and Ken is stunned to see Kevin has become a very hot and successful doctor. Ken takes on the job of emceeing a banquet to honor Kevin and turns the banquet into a roast.
Two more 1st year television programs with Asian Americans in lead roles have yet to debut. Into the Badlands starring Daniel Wu on AMC debuts November 15.
Rush Hour co-starring John Foo has yet to get a premiere date, but has been selected as a mid-season replacement on CBS.
