John Tran has been elected first Asian American judge in the Commonwealth of Virginia, reports the Washington Post.
Tran is a former federal and Alexandria city prosecutor and was elected Thursday to the Fairfax County Circuit Court by the Virginia General Assembly.
“This has always been true of Virginia,” said Tran who came to the US from Vietnam with his family in 1970. “The opportunities are there regardless of where you come from. It is a privilege to have been given this opportunity by the General Assembly.”
He is also believed to be the first Vietnamese American just in the Washington area.
