A 14-year old Asian American student was subjected for two years to harassment and racial slurs from her basketball teammates in Eastern Kentucky, according to the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF).
SF Gate reports the school district is accused of doing nothing about it despite pleas from her parents who adopted the Asian Kazakh student when she as just 18 months old.
In his blog for AALDEF, Emil Guillermo writes that Milena Clarke of Russell Middle School was called gook, nigger lover and chubby chink ever since the 6th grade.
“I’d say [to teammates] why are you saying that, and they’d just laugh and start talking about me more, and I couldn’t do much about it,” Milena said.
