World Magazine: GOP Adding More Color to Revitalize Party

Young KimYoung Kim (pictured), a candidate for the California State Assembly in Fullerton, declared herself part of the “new face of the Republican Party.”

Those new faces include more Asian American and Hispanic leaders who showed up at the party’s California state convention, according to World Magazine

The party is desperate for a make over with just 29 percent of California voters registered Republican, the lowest since numbers were made available.

Democrats also hold a super two-thirds majority in the state legislature.

“I’m not telling [Asians] they can’t be Democrats, I tell them that we are for small businesses, school choice, things they care about,” said Michelle Park Steel, a Korean American who is vice chair of the Board of Equalization.

Kim says Republicans can win the Asian American vote by concentrating on human rights in North Korea and attacks on families.  She also thinks what she perceives as the burdens of high taxes and government regulations are issues that resonate among Asian Americans.
