SF Chronicle: Golden State @Warriors Hope to Unveil Commemorative Chinese New Year Jersey

CATEGORIES

Golden State Warriors in ChinaThe Golden State Warriors, who are returning from their two game exhibition series in China against the Los Angeles Lakers, are working on a special Chinese New Year jersey they hope to release this winter, according to the SF Chronicle.

The team is in the process of getting approval for the jersey from the NBA.

It’s part of the Warriors outreach efforts to the Asian American community, something the city’s first Chinese American mayor recognizes.

“They have become a really exciting part of that community here,” San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said. “I know that people do get excited when Jeremy Lin comes to town and when it used to be Yao Ming, but I think the Warriors have really come alive within the Asian community at large. … They’re exhibiting a world knowledge while combining it with basketball and philanthropy, and it’s just fantastic.”

It’ll be interesting to see what design the team comes up with, if its ever released. The San Francisco Giants released a t-shirt with the team’s logo on it, along side an image of Bruce Lee, that was quite popular. It was part of Bruce Lee night at the ballpark.

The Warriors would likely release the Chinese New Year’s jersey on Asian Heritage Night.
