RT USA: Filipino American sues after being held by immigration for 7 months

Statue of LibertyA US citizen and Filipino American is suing the US government after being threatened with deportation and being held for seven months by immigration authorities, reports RT USA.

Sharon Arlanza Yost of San Diego accuses authorities of negligence, false imprisonment and causing emotional distress.

In court papers Yost contends she repeatedly told immigration authorities that she was a US citizen, but they refused to believe her.

On December 16, 2011, nine days after Ms. Yost’s release, U.S.Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), a component agency within DHS, issued a Certificate of Citizenship confirming that Ms. Yost had acquired U.S. citizenship on April 28, 1993—more than 18 years
before she was arrested and detained by ICE
Yost filed an administrative complaint following her release and sought damages from the government. According to court papers filed by Yost’s attorney, the government retaliated by issuing a notice of intent threatening to revoke her citizenship certificate
