Lifeway Christian Resources is apologizing for publishing bible school material that “used racial stereotypes that offended many in the Asian American community,” reports Religious News Service.
The group acknowledged that a decade later, the printed Rickshaw Rally material is still a source of hurt for Asian American Christians.
“I am sincerely sorry stereotypes were used in our materials, and I apologize for the pain they caused,” Thom Rainer, president of Lifeway said.
“I’m really moved that LifeWay would go to these lengths to do this,” said Soong-Chan Rah of North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago. “It’s not something they had to do since many people will see it as something that happened so long ago.”
