Democrat & Chronicle: AAPIs in Rochester united by oral history project

Greater Asian Pacific Islander Association of RochesterThe Asian American Pacific Islander community ten years ago in Rochester, NY decided they needed more representation and launched the Asian/Pacific Islander/America History Project of Greater Rochester, reports the Democrat & Chronicle.
Out of that oral history project was born the Asian Pacific-Islander American Association of Greater Rochester.
Today the Association maintains the history project as well as holds film festivals, music and dance series.
“We remember and try to hold onto the culture of our home countries,” says Mimi W. Lee. “But we also try to shed light on those raised here in this country because they often have a different experience.”
You can read more about the oral history project as well as the group’s new exhibition in the Democrat & Chronicle.
