CNN: Asian American Women Celebrate Work of Nelly Bly

Karen OIn honor of trailblazing journalist Nelly Bly’s 151st Birthday, Google unveiled a Google doodle drafted by Google artist Katy Wu. The doodle was accompanied by an original song sung by Karen O, the Korean American lead singer of the Yeah Yeahs (photo by Greg Neate).

According to CNN, Bly was an investigative journalist in the 1800s, who covered pertinent issues such as workers rights(in the Chicago Pullman Railroad Strike of 1894) and the Nelly Blypoor treatment of mental health patients at Blackwell Island (Photo by Lauren).

Wu described both Karen O and Bly as “bold, edgy and daring, unafraid to challenge conventional ideas of what a woman should be or do.”
