Rep. Loretta Sanchez’ (D-Orange County) meeting with Indian Americans during the California Democratic Convention went terribly wrong when she admitted she was expecting to meet with Native Americans, reported KABC
“I am going to his office, thinking that I am going to meet with a,” she said, while making a gesture and sound stereotypically associated with Native Americans. “Right? … because he said I was going to meet with Indian American.”
Sanchez declined to comment on what happened, but later issued a statement saying Native Americans “have a great presence in our country and many are supporting our election.”
Her opponent, Kamala Harris, whose mother is Indian American, called the incident shocking and later issued a statement saying “There is no place for that in our public discourse.”
