NBC Chicago: Sikh Man Attacked in Apparent Hate Crime

Inderjit Singh Mukker

Chicago Police are investigating an attack on a Sikh man as a hate crime, reports NBC Chicago.

The attack happened just more than a day before the anniversary of 9/11.

According to the Sikh Coalition, a man in a car pulled up alongside Inderjit Singh Mukker and began taunting him with racial slurs.

“Terrorist, go back to your country, Bin Linden,” the suspect is quoted as saying.

The suspect then continued cutting Mukker off, who then pulled off to the side of the road to let the man pass.

Instead he got out his car, reached through Mukker’s open window and beat him unconscious.

The suspect is now in a local hospital.

Mukker was treated for a fracture that required six stitches.

I’m thankful for the swift response of authorities to apprehend the individual,” said Mukker, a father of two and a U.S. citizen. “No American should be afraid to practice their faith in this country.

Charges could be filed in this case later today.
