University of Houston chancellor Renu Khator has joined the latest class into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame, reports Chron.
Khator will join Selena, the queen of Tejano music, along with three others at the induction ceremony in October.
Khator is credited with recruiting some of the top scientists and engineers to the university while increasing the graduation rate.
She is described by the Hall of Fame as the “first Indian immigrant to head a comprehensive public research university in the United States.”
She is also just the second women to lead the University.
Khator held various positions at the University of South Florida for 22 years including provost and senior vice president of the university, according to Wikipedia.
Besides being the chancellor, she s also the University of Houston’s president and is only the third person to hold both positions.
