The Chicago Cubs could win their first National League Championship tonight in 71 years in front of their adoring fans at Wrigley Field.
If they beat the Dodgers to take the pennant, among the Cub heroes will be Filipino American Addison Russell and his teammate’s underwear.
Russell had been in a 1 for 24 slump in the seven playoff games prior to game 4. That all changed when he borrowed the underwear of teammate Matt Szczur.

“My underwear,” Szczur said with a grin. “People broke out of their slumps and it just so happened to be with my stuff. I feel like a lot of things happen for a reason.”
Russell who hit 21 home runs during the regular season has five hits, including two home runs in the last two games.
His two run homer in game four helped propel the Cubs to a 10 to 2 victory. His home run in game 5 broke a 1-1 tie in the 6th and catapulted the Cubs to a 8-4 victory and a three games to two lead.
“Rounding the bases, it was pretty exciting,’’ Russell said of his animated reaction to the home run. “Pumped up. Not only for myself but for the team and that little cushion that Jonny had to go forward from that. It felt really good.’’
