Astronaut and world record holder Sunita Williams will have a new school named after her in her hometown.
The Wicked Local reports the school board in Needham, Massachusetts unanimously voted to name the new school after the Indian American and 1983 graduate of Needham High.
Williams holds the record for most time spacewalking-50 hours and 40 minutes. She has twice completed missions at the International Space Station.
“There is something exciting for me for naming the school after Sunita Williams, committee member Susan Neckes told Patch. I think we’re trying to promote STEM or STEAM in our schools. She brings a lot of diversity in terms of our naming, and she’s a product of our schools.”
Williams is the first woman to have a school named after her in the district.
