Robocall Scam Targeting San Francisco’s Chinese Community

Smart PhonePolice in San Francisco are warning of a scam targeting the Chinese community, reports SF Gate

Authorities say residents are receiving robocalls from someone claiming to be from the Chinese Embassy.

The automated calls tell residents they have a package that is being held for pickup. The recipient is asked to input their credit card number so the package can be released.

“The creators of these robocalls are attempting to take advantage of our City’s Chinese residents and their businesses,” David Lazar of the San Francisco Police Department said.

Anyone who receives such a call is being asked to contact the SFPD at (415) 553-0123. Cantonese speakers can call special tip line by calling (415) 553-9212 or (855) 737-3847.
