Arrests Made in Killing at Hmong Festival

Hmong Festival ShootingPolice arrested two people Monday following the fatal weekend shooting at the 38th Annual Hmong Freedom Festival in St. Paul, MN, reports WCCO.

The shooting happened while thousands of people gathered at Como Park to celebrate Hmong culture.

Investigators say 27-year-old Nougai Xiong of St. Paul killed 19-year-old Jacky Vue. Police suspect 28-year-old Yang Houa Xiong of La Crosse, Wisconsin of being an accomplice.

Relatives of Vue are mourning his loss. According to the Twin Cities Pioneer Press, Vue graduated from Gordon Parks High School in St. Paul last month and has 9 siblings.

He had just started work at Medtronic, a medical device maker.

“And of all the people that were there, why Jacky?,” wondered Moua Yang, his brother-in-law to the Pioneer Press.

Police are asking anyone with information or videof of the shooting to come forward.

“While we along with security work hard to keep it secure, a space that big, with that many people coming and going, we don’t know how the gun got in right now, we don’t know if it was put there before hand, if someone passed it through during the event,” Steve Linders of the St. Paul Police Department said.
