K-pop fans stand up for George Floyd

When the #WhiteLivesMatter hashtag began to trend with racist memes and posts, K-pop fans sprung into action.

They flooded twitter using the same hashtag with photos of their favorite K-pop stars to push the racists posts into the background.

According to CNET, K-pop idols BTS appeared to support the effort when it tweeted “We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together.”

Hill reports fans also foiled efforts by the Dallas Police Department which asked the public to send via social media any photos of illegal activity stemming from the George Floyd protest. Instead the Dallas PD received fan videos of K-pop stars and had to shut down its app due to technical difficulties.
