Two rising stars you may not yet be familiar with are getting critical acclaim from the music industry.
Priya Darshini of Brooklyn garnered a Grammy nomination this week for her debut album, Periphery.
She won it in the category of Best New Age album.
Producer Vivek J. Tiwary won a nomination for Best Musical Theater Album for Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill based on Alanis Morissette’s classic album.
“I can’t believe it!” Darshini proclaimed on Facebook. “My debut album Periphery is nominated for a Grammy in the Best New Age Album category! A Live album, recorded entirely on one Mic getting a nod from the Academy is really quite surreal. I’ve dreamt of this day since I was little, but I never really thought dreams like this could come true for someone like me – a tamizh ponnu from Goregaon, Mumbai! Glad I was proven wrong. Thank you for all your messages of love, and support. I feel so held!”
According to Money Control, Darshini has worked with a wide range of artists from Pearl Jam to ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro of Hawaii.
Tiwary has been connected to a number of Broadway hits including Green Day’s American Idiot, A Raisin In The Sun, The Addams Family, A Little Night Music and both of Mel Brooks’ musicals, The Producers and Young Frankenstein, India West reports.
“We’re GRAMMY NOMINATED for the Jagged Little Pill cast album! On Thanksgiving, I am thankful to all at Atlantic Records, The Recording Academy / GRAMMYs, our kick-ass producers #TomKitt and Neal Avron— and the entire Jagged Little Pill cast + band!,” Tiwary also said on Facebook.
