A Facebook video of a man shouting anti-Asian slurs at a Stop Asian Hate rally in Richmond, Canada Sunday has surfaced, CTV News reports.
Patrick Liu recorded the incident on his phone and posted the video to Facebook.
Protestors say that the man argued with one of the volunteers and told them to go back to China if they loved the Chinese government so much.
In the video, the man can be heard saying things like: “you’re no longer in China,” “you’re no different than any other culture, you’re not special and you give that impression” and “if you want us to live like you’re still in China, stay in China. You can eat Chinese food, read Chinese books.”
The incident has been reported to the Richmond police.

We all need training in how to respond to these negative and confrontational situations. It is so hard when we get our shackles up and our emotions are buzzing. We need techniques like NVC – non-violent communication.
Asians need to stop acting like sheep and step up to confront this issue. Too many times when clips are posted we don’t take any action to defend the victim, all we do is talk! Face up to the bullies and let them know we can’t be pushed around!
I just listened again to the end of the video. The bigoted perpetrator is a first generation Canadian! So where did he come from?!! Wow! White privileged. Ok for him to be there but not a person of Asian descent first generation? Wow. Asians Advancing Justice has a video on how to be a support as a witness to violence and hate speech. Look it up. They got it from an org that addresses any hate and violence.
