Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is getting backlash after being heard on video inferring Rep Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is a terrorist.
Boebert is now backing down and apologizing for her remarks, reports NBC News.
In the video apparently shot by PatriotTakes US and played on CNN, Boebert speaks to a group of supporter saying she sees a Capitol police officer scurrying around with “threat all over his face.”
She says she looks around and “there she is-Ilhan Omar. I said ‘well, she doesn’t have a backpack. We should be fine’…I said ‘oh,look, the Jihad squad decided to show up for work today.”‘
Omar said Boebert totally fabricated the story and accused her of bigotry. Boebert tweeted out an apology on Friday.
I apologize to anyone in the Muslim community I offended with my comment about Rep. Omar. I have reached out to her office to speak with her directly. There are plenty of policy differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction.

The deputy director of the Council on American Islamic Relations, Edward Ahmed Mitchell, called on Republican leader, Rep Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to repudiate the remarks.
“Lauren Boebert’s disgusting remark about Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is merely the latest symptom of the anti-Muslim bigotry that has plagued the Republican caucus in the House for years. Leader McCarthy should repudiate Rep. Boebert’s remarks and call on all Republican members of Congress to treat their American Muslim colleagues and constituents with the respect and decency everyone deserves,” he said in a statement sent to AsAmNews.
