Democratic Representative Grace Meng (D-NY) endorsed New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s campaign for a full term this Friday in a Queens neighborhood.
Spectrum News reports that Hochul said, “I am honored to receive the endorsement of Congresswoman Grace Meng, a champion for our AAPI communities and a strong voice for working people in Queens.”
Meng is serving her fifth term in the House of Representatives. Her government website states that she represents the Sixth Congressional District of New York, encompassing the New York City borough of Queens.
“Throughout her career in Congress, Representative Meng has fought tirelessly to expand opportunities for communities of color, young people and women, and secure resources to help local small businesses. I am proud to have Congresswoman Meng standing with me in my campaign for a full term and look forward to working together to build a brighter future for New York,” she added.
Meng’s endorsement is significant because she is the first and only Asian American woman to represent New York in Congress and is also vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee. She is the twelfth House lawmaker to back the governor.
“Governor Hochul has spent time in our neighborhoods, she knows our communities, and she has championed groundbreaking efforts to lift us up,” Meng said, according to Spectrum News. “In both times of celebration and hardship, Governor Hochul has stood with Queens families and the AAPI community — fighting for safer streets, stronger schools, and a fairer and more prosperous New York. I am proud to endorse her for a full term.”
Hochul is the first female governor of New York State and was appointed after Andrew Cuomo resigned in August 2021 due to sexual misconduct accusations. She is now running for a full term as governor.
In a tweet, Hochul wrote, “Honored to stand with my friend @Grace4NY in Flushing today and accept her endorsement!”
