Police suspect Koreatown shooting of 3 may be hate crime

The shooting of three women at a hair salon in Dallas Wednesday may be connected to two other shootings of Asian victims, reports the Ft. Worth-Telegram.

According to CBS News, police chief Eddie Garcia fears the crimes may be hate related.

“Hate has no place here, and so the minute we see that, we’re going to take this action,” Garcia said.

He told the Star Telegram that his department has increased patrols in Asian American communities.

Police say the suspect walked into the hair salon and shot his victims before escaping in a maroon mini-van.

Investigators say witnesses in two drive-by shootings say the suspect in those cases at two Asian-owned businesses also escaped in a similar vehicle.

The suspect is described as a 5’7″ to 5’10” Black man with a thin build and curly medium-length hair, as well as a connecting beard.

The FBI and members of the joint terrorism task force have also joined the investigation.

A town hall has been called in Dallas’ Korean community to discuss safety.
