By Mimi Chen, AsAmNews Music Reporter

People don’t realize the metaverse has been in existence for a long time now.  Facebook/Meta made it a big deal last year and now it’s become the latest buzzword.   Game companies have always existed in the ‘metaverse’ though and they’ve been at the forefront of the movement into 3D games and now virtual music experiences.  Hence, it’s no surprise that popular game Fortnite began a live music series last October called Soundwave featuring artists from around the world, The series began with Egyptian superstar Mohamed Hamaki and their live musical offering continues this month with Gen Hoshino performing on the Fortnite live stage.

Gen Hoshino is a well-known Japanese pop artist, actor, writer, and music producer . Anime fans are already familiar with his work which includes the closing theme for major anime title Spy X Family with said theme – the  Kigeki comedy song garnering over 6.5 million views on YouTube.

He released his first solo album in 2010 called Baka no Uta. The song, Koi was used as the theme song for a TV drama series and he’s had a series of popular singles including the songs Sun, Koi, Idea, Fushigi, and Souzou.

Hoshino’s show will air back-to-back for 72 hours starting Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 5 AM PT — just a few days after Fortnite’s Chapter 3 Season 3 launches June 5.

Each show in the Soundwave Series takes place in its own interactive experience.  Hoshino’s interactive experience this time was created by the company 3D lab and they said the experience will find players in an evolving space with changing colors, scenery and activities to match the emotional mood.  His popular Koi track will be featured along with the Koi Dance Emote that is only available while  in the experience.
