Olympians & ice dance partners Chock & Bates engaged

For more than 10 years, Olympians Madison Chock and Evan Bates have danced on the ice together, often gazing into each other eyes and embracing in a loving matter.

This week, the Olympic silver medalists announced on Instagram that they are now engaged.

“Left home with my boyfriend, coming back with my fiancé!” she wrote.

She made the statement from a beach where they were vacationing in Thailand. In the sand, you could make out the words 6-11-22.

Bates told People the two have been dating for six years.

“I was planning to propose since we went ring shopping in April,” Bates said. “Madi wanted a vintage ring and we found the perfect one from Victor Barboné in NYC. It’s a vintage Cartier ring from 1920. It’s very Art Deco, which is Madi’s favorite and it’s one of a kind.”

Chock recalled that Bates grabbed a stick and wrote the date on the sand. he then got down on his knees and proposed.

I was carrying a bunch of stuff and had my hands full, but when I realized what was happening I tossed everything down on the sand and answered with a resounding yes,” she says. “We were engaged!”

In addition to their Olympic silver medal, they are also three-time world medalists with one silver and two bronze.

Chock is of Chinese-Hawaiian descent on her father’s side and European on her mother’s side.
