Filipino American hockey player Jason Robertson and his NHL team the Dallas Stars are on top of their division heading into the New Year.
The Stars are leading the Central division of the Western Conference with 23 wins, 9 losses and 6 overtime losses. They are currently enjoying a four-game winning streak.
Robertson is at the center of much of the team’s success. He has scored 25 goals, the fifth most in the NHL. He also ranks third overall in points, which are determined by goals and assists, with 54 points. According to CBS Sports, he had a goal and an assist during the team’s win against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 31.
The 23-year-old has worked hard for his success. ESPN reports that he starts his first skating session at 6 a.m. on training days.
“My mom always told me, ‘Filipino culture is about hard work and family,'” Robertson told ESPN. “Growing up, that’s pretty much what our lifestyle was.”
