Multiple sources have exclusively told Variety that the third season of “The White Lotus” will reportedly take place in Thailand.
Variety notes that the past two seasons have been filmed at Four Seasons resorts in Hawaii and Italy. The hotel franchise also has four resorts in Thailand, which are located in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui and the Golden Triangle.
Previously, there was a lot of speculation that season three would be set in an Asian country. In December, a source told Los Angeles Magazine that the show’s creator Mike White wanted the third season to take place in Japan. However, if Japan didn’t work, the source said he would still like the show to be set in Asia. It appears as if plans have now pivoted to Thailand.
“The White Lotus,” despite being set in Hawaii for one season, has not featured many Asian or Pacific Islander main characters. In Season one, there were two hotel workers Lani and Kai who had minor roles. The second season featured a main character named Ethan, played by Will Sharpe a British Japanese actor.
It is unclear when production on season 3 will begin but sources told Variety that White has been visiting Thailand to scope out filming locations.
