Community asks for help supporting family of shooting victim

A community is asking for help supporting the loved ones of a father who was seriously injured during a robbery in Houston.

According to ABC 13, Holam Cheng was shot on June 25 while returning to his Chinatown-area apartment in the 9200 block of Bellwood. He had just finished a long work shift at a restaurant nearby.

Houston police told ABC 13 Cheng was shot four times by robbers. He is currently in critical condition at Ben Taub Hospital.

The police have arrested one person but are seeking more suspects.

Now, a community is asking for help to support Cheng’s family members. A GoFundMe has been set up to pay for medical expenses. The campaign’s main post appears to be written by one of Cheng’s three children.

“My father, the pillar of our family, is now fighting for his life in the hospital, facing a long and arduous journey of recovery. The emotional and physical toll on him is immense, and the road ahead is uncertain and challenging. Compounding this devastating situation is the fact that no one in our household is currently able to drive or maintain employment,” the GoFundMe posts reads.

The post says that there are 8 people total in the family: Cheng, his wife, five children and one elderly person.

“If you are unable to contribute financially, we kindly ask for your prayers, positive thoughts, and shares to help spread the word about our campaign. Together, we can create a ripple of hope and healing for my father and our family during this dark time,” the post says.
