Who is Allisen Corpuz? Meet the golfer tied for 2nd in U.S. Open standings

Heading into the final day of the U.S. Women’s Open, Asian American golfer Allisen Corpuz is tied for second place.

Asian American and Pacific Islander golfers have been put on a strong showing at the 2023 U.S Women’s Open so far. On Saturday, Corpuz catapulted herself into second place.

Corpuz started the day 5-under par and is now 6-under par, one shot behind leader Nasa Hataoka. According to the LPGA news website, Corpuz got her first birdie that day on the fifth hole with a great chip shot. She also birdied the 10th and 14th holes but had bogies on the 11th and 18th holes.

The 25-year-old grew up in Hawaii. According to Golf Monthly, she attended the Punahou School in Honolulu, the same school golfer Michelle Wie West and former U.S. President Barack Obama attended.

Corpuz believes her ball-striking has helped her throughout the Open.

“I think I’m a really solid ball-striker, which I think you need on big courses like this,” Corpuz told The Honolulu Star-Advertiser. “Me and (caddie) Jay (Monahan) do a great job of just looking at the course and really being honest about where my game is at, what shots I do or don’t have for the week, and putting together a really solid game plan according to that.”

Corpuz tees off with Bailey Tardy on Sunday morning.
