Fil Am History Month celebration in San Francisco rescheduled

The 19th Annual Filipino American History Month Celebration in San Francisco has been rescheduled out of respect for memorial services for U.S. Senator and former San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein.

According to a media release, the celebration was originally slated to take place at San Francisco City Hall’s Rotunda on Thursday, October 5th. It will now be held at the same location on Thursday, October 26th, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Feinstein’s funeral will be held on the steps of San Francisco City Hall tomorrow. The public is welcome to attend.

“We recognize Senator Feinstein’s significant impacts on shaping the history of our beloved city and her unwavering support for the Filipino community. In joining the nation to honor her legacy, it is appropriate to adjust our plans to allow for the proper remembrance and tribute,” said Al Perez, the Filipino American History Month Celebration Host Committee chair, in a media release.

The rescheduled celebration will include a proclomation from San Francisco Mayor London Breed, remarks by Philippine Consul General Neil Ferrer and a keynote by Marjan Philhour, a small business owner and community advocate.

It will also feature cultural performances from Parangal Dance Company, Raquel Basco, Octavio Gutierrez, Jackie Chavez, and many more. City Hall will then be lit up with the colors of the Philippine flag.

The event will be open to the public. The mayor’s office will live stream the event on Youtube for those who cannot attend in person.
