Asian American gymnast Kayla DiCello recently won gold in the all-around event at the 2023 Pan American Games.
According to a post from Team USA, DiCello is the first U.S. woman to win all-around gold at the Pan American Games since 2011.
According to Reuters, the games were missing American gymnast Simone Biles and Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade but the field was still competitive. DiCello’s teammate Jordan Chiles, who is also an Olympic silver medalist, finished in bronze position. Brazilian gymnast Flavia Saraiva took home the silver medal.
In an Instagram post, DiCello said she has “never been more grateful for this opportunity.”
