Naomi Osaka’s next stop will be the Australian Open where she has won the grand slam title twice, the latest in 2021.
Her tune up at the Brisbane Open came to an abrupt end when Karolina Plíšková came from behind to defeat Osaka 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 victory in a second-round match.
It was Osaka’s first competitive tournament since taking a break first for both her mental health and then maternity leave.
Not going to lie- “That was really fun though,” she said in a lighthearted post on X after her match.
The Express reports that Osaka had expressed doubts whether she would be ready for competitive play just a few weeks ago. Her play at Brisbane should put those fears to rest.
