Filipinos on Broadway get Drama League Awards Nominations

Nominations for the 2024 Drama League Awards for Broadway and Off-Broadway were announced Monday, including several nominations for Filipino American performers. 

These awards recognize the best of Broadway and off-Broadway shows in New York City, and the winners will be named on May 17 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, ABS-CBN News reported. 

Some of the notable mentions include three Drama League nominations for the first all-Filipino cast musical Here Lies Love, which is about the rise and fall of the Marcos dictatorship in the Philippines.

The nominations include Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Direction of a Musical for Alex Timbers, and Distinguished Performance Award for Conrad Ricamora, according to DC Theater Arts

Ricamora is also nominated for the performance Oh, Mary!, which is a comedic narrative on Abraham Lincoln and his life, ABS-CBN News reported.

Eva Noblezada, who is a two-time Tony nominee, is also nominated for the Distinguished Performance Award for her role in the musical The Great Gatsby.

Nominations at the 2024 Outer Critics Circle Awards were announced a day after the 2024 Drama League Awards, in which Here Lies Love received two nominations for Outstanding Revival of a Musical and Outstanding Scenic Design for David Korins, according to ABS-CBN News.

Ricamora was recognized with the Outstanding Featured Performer in an Off-Broadway play for Oh, Mary!. This play, along with The Great Gatsby, is also nominated for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play. Winners of the 2024 Outer Critics Circle Awards will be announced on May 13, ABS-CBN News reported.
