Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco attracts crowd

By Almira Bianca Baldoza, AsAmNews Intern

San Francisco’s Cherry Blossom Festival the past two weekends drew huge crowds into the city’s Japantown.

The festival has been a tradition in San Francisco since the Japan Trade Center opened in 1968.

Many feared that after many businesses shuttered during the pandemic, that the Center would have difficulty recovering.

The tens of thousands who attended the Festival the past two weekends help assure the Japan Trade Center will continue to be an integral part of the San Francisco community.

The city’s Japantown is one of just three left in the country. See our series Lost Kinjo about what happened to more than 40 Japanese American neighborhoods in California after World War II.
