Three teens accused in the beating of an Asian woman at a light rail stop in St. Paul are facing misdemeanor charges, reports the Star Tribune.
The 15-year-old boys all face harassment and low level assault charges-all misdemeanors.
Ramsey County prosecutors told the Pioneer Press there was insufficient evidence to warrant felony charges and no evidence “racial or ethnic bias was involved.”
As AsAmNews reported earlier this month, the teens appeared to be goading one of the boys to attack the woman. Video shows the boy kicking the victim in the face.
The Pioneer Press spoke with the Asian American Organizing Project in St. Paul which expressed concerns the attack was racially motivated.
It went on to condemn violence against Asians while standing “firmly against anti-Blackness.”
“We’re asking our community members to stop using anti-Black language and condemn any and all anti-Black behaviors.”
