American Idol judges gave the green light to Gurpreet Singh Sarin, an Indian American R&B crooner already dubbed the Turbanator. According to an article in India West.  Sarin got his nickname from the colorful turbans he wears to match every outfit.

Not only did Sarin sing a rendition of Maroon 5’s hit, Sunday Morning, but he sang what he termed “Sargasms” or Indian American riffs.

Sarin clearly had to win over the judges as many expressed reservations about his style.

“Well, ‘Turbanator,’ I love your look,” “Idol” judge Nicki Minaj said. “I think you have a pretty voice, but I don’t think it’s a standout voice.”

That was after fellow Idol Judge Keith Urban had given Gurpreet his no vote.

Gurpreet pleaded for a second chance.

“I actually have a marigold turban the color of your hair, in addition to all the other colors. Just give me a chance, please,”

Minaj was sold and will moving on to Hollywood with American Idol.
