As the new mom to a two-month-old girl, Lisa Ling knows the importance of empowering young girls.
She told OK! Magazine that she remembers holding herself back because of concern about her appearance.
“When I started working in television I was really young, like 16 years old. There were four hosts on this show, two boys and two girls, and the other girl was always considered the pretty one. I was considered kind of the “funky” one. I heard it so frequently that it was always this source of insecurity for me, because I wasn’t the pretty one and she was much more well-regarded.”
Ling has signed on to Dove’s Let’s Make Girls Unstoppable campaign. She says 6 out of 10 girls stop doing what they love doing most because of concern of what they look like.
The campaign includes tools on increasing self confidence and encourages young girls to share pictures of themselves doing their favorite things.
