Vancouver Police hope an apology issued by a man caught urinating on the Komagata Maru Monument will defuse anger within the South Asian community, reports the Surrey Leader.
Many expressed anger when police announced no charges would be announced in the case.
Police say the man who has not publicly been identified is mentally ill.
“I am sorry for what I did that day at the monument. I didn’t want to hurt anyone,” the apology states.
The Komagata Maru Monument has become a symbol of tolerance.
