Lunar New Year has become the unofficial skip day for many students in New York, reports the Daily News.

The idea is being pushed on both the local and state level.
“If you have a high concentration of Asian-American students, you’ll have high absenteeism on the Lunar New Year,” said Lois Lee, who directs an after-school program at PS 20.
