Pew: Asian Americans split on effectiveness of immigration system

Citizenship Ceremonycitizenship ceremonyA new poll from the Pew Research Center has found Asian Americans are evenly split about their opinions on the effectiveness of the US immigration system.(photos by City of Salisbury)

45% says the system works pretty well and requires only minor changes. 47% says the system needs to be completely rebuilt.

An estimated 14% of Asians in this country are undocumented immigrants. 80% are permanent residents or naturalized citizens.

Asian Americans are also more likely than Hispanics to say they have experience or personal knowledge of the immigration system.

These results are especially timely given the current debate over immigration reform in the United States.
