16-year-old Jason Fong Shares His Asian American Story

Jason Fong

The teenager who recently turned 16-years-old and sparked a national debate over the term of anchor babies is telling his Asian American story.

His hashtag #MyAsianAmericanStory went viral and has been picked up the Los Angeles Times, NBC News and CNN. He intended the hashtag to be a response to Jeb Bush comment on anchor babies and Asians, and said he was surprised to see it receive so much attention.

Fong continues to write his own blog and has been interning for AsAmNews contributing stories on a regular basis.

“The biggest change could be made in the school system” said Fong. “When we teach American history, it should include people of all colors. It shouldn’t just be a white washed version of history. And I think that being the first step will encourage a lot of people to like learn more about themselves, learn more about the community issues that they’re involved in.”

You can hear Fong tell his Asian American story in the video below from The Band with No Name Film Company.
